(backdated to 10/27/2024)

Today was very good, but I feel guilty about it now. Possibly because it is so late, even for me, and I didn't get a shower in...Perhaps I will make more sense of this when I write it out.

This morning, I woke up on time for group, but everyone was busy, so I had a quiet hour or so. I started my laundry, and then I went downstairs and had breakfast. I changed my sheets and folded my clean ones, and sat down to work on my homework. But then I realized I didn't want to sit in front of my computer at the moment, so I went downstairs to work on some copying. I knew I should work on some chores, but I couldn't find any motivation for them.  Mom recommended I get out for a few hours, which I was glad for. It can sometimes feel rather trapping, once you are through your weekend routine and are at loose ends.

I decided to go to The Crafter's Library ( www.thecrafterslibrary.com/ ) and to Hook & Press Doughnuts ( www.hookandpressdonuts.com/ ) before that.
At Hook & Press, I had their praline and white chocolate latte, and their pumpkin cheesecake doughnut, and brought them next door to the Crafter's Library. I wanted to work on my:
- embroidery
- illustrating
- copying
- sun cloak design
- Changeling necklace (it needs crimp beads!)

I also wanted to show off the latest project that I made, a cloth container for my obsidian pyramid. There's a felt layer between the inner and outer cloths, so it's a little softer.
As I worked, I got an idea for another project -- wool painting, with the wool pressed onto plywood with beeswax!
They didn't have crimp beads, so I focused on my embroidery, instead (I finished it tonight!). I felt guilty about not doing more, so I bought a bunch of pins. Two were gifts, but only two, out of eleven!

When I got home, there was split-pea soup and cornbread for dinner, which was very wonderful.

Things I currently do to try and minimize my impact on the earth:

- bike, bus, or carpool to work, in that order
- always dry my hands on cloth, never on paper
- make my electronics last
- have as few electronics as I reasonably can (my youngest electronic is 3 years old)
- not eat almonds or palm oil, when possible (I ate a cookie with palm oil last week, though I didn't realize that was what was in it)
- always dump the rinse water from handwashing dishes on the roots of the plants outside
- do all my laundry on one day of the week, at an off-peak use time
- close up my shutters tight as soon as it starts to get dark, so my lamp(s) won't cause light pollution
- unplug my personal power strip every day when I wake up
- use low-flow toilets and showers
- try and make all my clothes last as long as possible
- not have A/C
- have pollinating plants (some native, some not) in the back and front yards

I would like to do more -- for instance, I am trying to bring down my eating wheat to twice a day, and then further down from that. I would like further advice on these practices, if anyone wants to weigh in.

You Will Need:
- 1/4 cup beeswax
- 1/4 cup coconut butter
- 1/4 cup olive oil (or almond. Don't have almond oil, though)
- 1/4 cup baby oil (called "mineral oil" in the recipe, but apparently they're functionally identical)

1) Low heat beeswax and coconut butter.

2) When solids start to melt, slowly pour olive oil in, stirring all the while.

3) When combined, add in the baby oil. Stir on low for 5 minutes, DO NOT LET IT BOIL.

4) Pour into containers.

The recipe for holy water that I have used in the past is as follows. I took it from the book "Exorcism: A Manual for Casting Out Evil Spirits" by Frank J. MacHovec.
-----
You will need:
- Salt
- Fresh water

Exorcist [EX]: Our help is in the name of the Lord
ALL: Who made Heaven and Earth
EX [over the salt]: God's creation, I cast out the demon from you by the living God. [make sign of cross over the salt] By the true God. [make sign of the cross]
By God who ordered you to be thrown into the waterspring by Eliseus to heal it of its barrenness. May you be a purified salt, a means of health for those who believe, a medicine for body and soul for all who make use of you. May all evil fancies of the foul fiend, his malice and cunning, be driven afar from the place where you are sprinkled. And let every unclean spirit be repulsed by Him who is coming to judge both the living and the dead and the world by fire.
ALL: Amen.
EX [over the water]: God's creation, water, I cast out the demon from you in the name of God the Father Almighty. [make sign of the cross over it] In the name of Jesus Christ. [make sign of the cross] His Son, our Lord, and in the power of the Holy Spirit. [make sign of the cross]
May you be a purified water, empowered to drive afar all power of the enemy; in fact, to root out and banish the enemy himself, along with his fallen angels. We ask this through the power of our Lord Jesus Christ, who is coming to judge the living and the dead and the world by fire.
ALL: Amen.
EX: Let us pray: O God, who for man's welfare established the most wonderful mysteries in the substance of water, hearken to our prayer and pour forth your blessing. [make sign of the cross] On this element now being prepared with various purifying rites. May this creation of yours, when used with your mysteries and endowed with your grace, serve to cast out demons and to banish disease. May everything that this water sprinkles in the homes and gatherings of the faithful be delivered from all that is unclean and hurtful; let no breath of contagation hover there, no taint of corruption; let all the wiles of the lurking enemy come to nothing. By the sprinkling of this water may everything opposed to safety and peace of the occupants of these homes be banished, so that in calling on your holy name they may know the well-being they desire, and be protected from every peril; through Christ, our Lord.
ALL: Amen.
EX: [pour salt into water in the form of the cross, once only, as you say] May this salt and water be mixed together in the name of the Father and of the Son and the Holy Spirit.
ALL: Amen.
EX: May the Lord be with you.
ALL: May He also be with you.
EX: Let us pray: God, source of irresistible might and king of an invincible realm, the everglorious conqueror; who restrains the force of the adversary, silences the uproar of his rage, and valiantly subdues his wickedness; in awe and humility we beg you, Lord, to regard with favor these creations of salt and water, to let the light of your kindness shine upon it, and to hallow it with the dew of your mercy, so that wherever it is sprinkled and your holy name is invoked, every assault of the unclean spirit may be baffled, and all dread of the serpent's venom be cast out. To us who entreat your mercy grant that the Holy Spirit may be with us wherever we may be, through Christ, our Lord.
ALL: Amen.
[Exorcist sprinkles self, those present, and the place]
